ದೀಪವ ಹಚ್ಚಿರೋ ಮೂಢಗಳಿರಾ
ದೀಪವ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದು ಕಂಚನು [ತಾಮ್ರವ] ನೋಡಲೇನೋ ಮೂಢಗಳಿರಾ
ಬಟ್ಟಲನು ತುಂಬುವುದು ನೀರನು ನೋಡಲೇನೋ ಪಾಮರಗಳಿರಾ
ತಾಯ ಪಾದ ತೊಳೆವುದು ಪದಕಮಲವ ಶುಭ್ರಗೊಳಿಸಲೇನೋ ಮೂರ್ಖಗಳಿರಾ
ದೀವಟಿಗೆಯ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದು ಆಲಯದ ಅಂಧಃಕಾರವ ಸೀಳಲಲ್ಲವೆ
ಬಟ್ಟಲ ತುಂಬುವುದು ಗಂಟಲೊಳಗಿನ ದಾಹವ ಆರಿಸಲಲ್ಲವೆ
ಜ್ಞಾನದ ದೀಪವ ಹಚ್ಚಿರೋ ಭಕುತಿಯ ಬಟ್ಟಲ ತುಂಬಿರೋ
ತಾಯ ಪದತಲವ ಅಶ್ರುಗಳಿಂದ ತೊಯ್ದು ಆತ್ಮವ ಶುಭ್ರಗೊಳಿಸಿರೋ
ಇಹಸಾಗರದಿ ರಾಮನ ಜೊತೆ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ನನ್ನ ಬಂಧುಗಳಿರಾ

Light a lamp, fools
Fools light lamps to
admire the brass
Fools fill vessels to
watch the water
Fools wash Her feet to
clean them!
Light a lamp to drive
away the darkness
Fill water to quench
the thirst
Light the lamp of
knowledge,
fill the vessel of bhakti
Wash Mother’s feet
with tears,
and purify your soul
Listen bretheren, all
ye
drowning
in the misery of the world.
