ತೃಣವನೂ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಿದ ತಾಯಿ

 

ಸ್ಪರ್ಶದಿಂದ ಗರಿಕೆ ವಜ್ರವಾಯಿತು

ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯಿಂದ ಅಸುರಪುರಿ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಯಿತು

ದಿನಕಳೆದರಿಂದ ಪಂಚವಟಿ ತೀರ್ಥವಾಯಿತು

ಚಿತ್ರಕೂಟವು ಯೋಗಿ ಜನ್ಮಸ್ಥಾನವಾಯಿತು

ಕರುಣೆಯಿಂದ ಅಗ್ನಿ ಹಿಮವಾಯಿತು

ತೃಣವನೂ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಿದ ಕರುಣಾಮಯಿ

ತಾಯಿ ವಜ್ರಗರಿಕಾಂಬಿಕೆಯೆ

ಪಾದಸ್ಪರ್ಶವ ದಯಪಾಲಿಸಿ

ಮೂಢ ರಾಮನ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸದಿರುವೆಯಾ?

ಒಂದೆರಡು ಮಾತು: ತಾಯಿಯು ಕೇವಲ ಗರಿಕೆ ಹುಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನೂ ಜಯಿಸಿದ, ಇಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಸದೆಬಡಿದ ರಾವಣನ ಹೆಡೆಮುರಿದಳು.  ತಾಯಿಯ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗರಿಕೆ ಹುಲ್ಲೂ ವಜ್ರಾಯುಧವಾಯಿತು.  ಇದರಿಂದಲೇ ತಾಯಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ವಜ್ರ-ಗರಿಕಾ-ಅಂಬಿಕೆ ಅರ್ಥಾತ್, ವಜ್ರಗರಿಕಾಂಬಿಕೆ ಆಯಿತು.

Mother, you redeemed a blade of grass

 From mere touch,

blade of grass became vajrayudha,

By mere presence,

the city of Asuras became prosperous,

You spent but a few days,

and Panchavati became a piligrimage

And Chitrakoota,

became a place that gives birth to yogis

With your kindness,

fire became cool as ice

Kind mother Vajragarikambika,

With infinite kindness,

you transformed a mere blade of grass,

Won’t you grant me,

the blessings of your feet

And redeem this ignorant Rama.

A few words: The great Mother broke Ravana's spirit with just a blade of grass, the very same Ravana who had subjugated the three worlds and defeated Indra.  In Her hands, even a blade of grass became a vajrayudha.  Hence, her name is Vajra-garika-ambika, the Mother who made a blade of grass into the Vajrayudha.
